What the term means
Whiplash describes a mechanism of injury, not a single scan finding. Rapid acceleration and deceleration can affect muscles, ligaments, joints, discs, and nearby nerves in the neck. Neck pain is common; stiffness, headache, reduced range of motion, dizziness, or arm symptoms can also occur.
Why the first record matters
Write down when symptoms began, how they changed, and what ordinary activities became difficult. A contemporaneous medical history and examination can show a pattern that a single image cannot. Tell a clinician about weakness, numbness, severe headache, confusion, balance problems, or worsening pain.
What a useful file contains
Keep the collision report, scene photographs, vehicle photographs, insurance correspondence, visit summaries, imaging reports, work restrictions, receipts, and a short symptom log. Preserve the originals and note the date of every item.
